Inspired by another excellent inspirational video from Alux, we have listed below the Top 15 LIFE SKILLS That Will Pay Off Forever, together with our own notes:

1. Learning How To Learn

Regarded as “the holy grail of skills” – and ability to learn whatever you need to learn in the most effective way possible gives you an ability to excel at many things and sets you up for a life of success. The ability to learn faster than your competitors has been described as the ultimate competitive advantage.

2. Ability To Improvise, Think On Your Feet And Adapt

This skill will allow you to continue to move forwards despite the great changes and setbacks that are inevitable. Hard times are bound to happen at some point; flexibility will enable you to take a step back, draw out a new course and rebound better than ever.

3. Meditation

Meditation can be a key to freeing your mind from negativity and living in the present moment.

4. The Ability To Communicate Your Ideas, Insights And Emotions

Communication skills are an essential aspect of successful relationships, business partnerships and numerous other situations in life.

5. Ability To Sell, Negotiate And Make Deals

Selling is often called the “master skill” of business. Whether you are selling products or promoting yourself as the best person for the job, selling is vital to achievement and prosperity.

6. Knowing How To Listen Well

Listening – the skill that everyone knows is vital but few are truly able to practice. As Stephen Covey said, the majority of people do not listen with a view to understanding, they listen so that they can respond. Interjecting their own ideas and demonstrating their status is more important than taking in new information – which is of course a recipe for one’s own ideas not developing. No matter how much we think we know, we should always be open to learning more.

7. Ability To Motivate Yourself And Be A “Self Starter”

There will not always be someone there pushing you along, you will need to be a self starter to achieve lasting success.

8. Self Discipline

Discipline is the ability to make yourself do something even when you do not want to… especially when you do not want to! Your success in all areas of your life will correspond to your ability to practice self discipline.

9. Time Management

There are 168 hours in a week and most people waste an astonishing amount of this time. Even one hour per day saved adds up to an entire 3 years of waking time in the average lifetime! Just think what you can do with all that time.

10. The Ability To Read, Comprehend, And Memorize

A good memory is often considered to be something that you either have or don’t have, however it is possible to train your memory to achieve far more than you do at the moment. It is a skill that can be studied and learned. The ability to be a “memory master” is not a supernatural ability or an innate gift but can be the result of using techniques to maximize the ability your brain already has.

11. Ability To Break Down A Complex Process Into Simple Steps

Even the most complex of tasks are accomplished by breaking them down into simple, achievable steps, then focusing on doing one at a time.

12. Self-Analysis

An ability to be objective, observe and critique yourself accurately is a vital skill. It will require looking at uncomfortable truths that many are not willing to face.

13. Emotional Intelligence, Empathy And Rapport

Emotional intelligence gives the ability to deal with people and maintain reasonable expectations when it comes to others. It allows you to find solutions to difficult situations. Empathy brings an ability to see things from another’s point of view and through that understanding achieve rapport and solutions.

14. Self-Respect And Being Able To Stand Up For Yourself

If you do not stand up for what you believe in and do not see yourself as valuable, people will push you around without even realizing that they are doing so. It is good to affirm that people can only do to you what you allow them to do to you. The good news is that in the modern world we are much more free than in old times. You can leave a situation that you do not like and “reinvent yourself”.

15. Ability To Create Ideas That Have Value

Most people have great ideas… but they forget them. You should keep an “idea document” – a special page or notebook where, as soon as you have an idea, you make a note of it and put down the details. What is interesting is that your subconscious will often continue to work on the idea even when you are not really thinking about it. Get into the habit of recording your inspirations and insights as soon as they happen. Looking back at it later you will be amazed at what you would have forgotten entirely had you not made a record of it.
