Here are 80 84 of the BEST ways to make extra money! 🙂

I did loads of research and filtered through TONS of ideas. I wanted only the good stuff on this page.

So I am not going to suggest weak ideas like “sign up for customer rewards” (which require you to spend thousands to be worth something significant!), “open a savings account” (and get 0.1% interest if you are lucky), or scary ones like “be part of medical experiments”. No, no and no.

Anyway there’s a megaton of real ideas here; have a scan through and get that cash rolling in! 🙂

Selling Your Stuff (10)

If you are short on cash, the very first thing I would do is to have a clearout and sell some of your old stuff that you have just gathering dust. Knowing most people in the developed world, you are probably sitting on a mountain of “stuff”… it just accumulates. I’m guilty of that too. But the good news is that you can convert WAY way more of it to cash, more easily, than you probably realized. Get rid and get rich! Here are some of the best ideas and tips:

1. Sell Larger Items (Bicycles, Furniture, TVs, Garden Furniture, Appliances etc.) Using “Local” Online Marketplaces:

I would list large items such as the above for sale locally (i.e. for collection rather than postage) because they are more of a hassle to ship. Facebook Marketplace, LetGo (200 million listings), Offerup, Gumtree and Preloved (UK) are some of the biggest venues where you can advertise and sell items locally, often free of charge.

2. Sell Smaller Items: eBay.

eBay is perfect for items that are smaller, more valuable and easier to ship. I would say avoid listing anything that is very fragile, oversized, extremely heavy or prone to problems.
When listing stuff on eBay I like to do it all in one big session, because then you can consolidate on trips to the post office / parcel drop-off. I will literally comb through the house and ask myself “Do I need this or do I really love it?” If the answer is no, into the eBay stack it goes! I made thousands doing eBay in 2020, just having a massive cull of my stuff and clearing out everything that I didn’t need. It was a lifesaver! Most people have too much stuff. And you might even be able to empty out your storage and save money every month there too! For a more in-depth tutorial on eBay, check out my free tutorials 26 Insider Tips For Ebay Success and 27 Surprising Things You Can Sell On eBay For Quick Profits (I Made $12,000+ Doing This!)

3. Sell Textbooks:

These deserve a special mention as textbooks often fetch significant money on resale. There is sometimes a very wide disparity in prices. There are now even online courses teaching people how to flip textbooks for profit – obtaining them both online and offline and checking eBay, Amazon and other places. Check Bookfinder.com to get price comparisons across several websites.

4. Sell Jewelry:

Dollarsprout has a great tutorial on 13 Best Places to Sell Your Jewelry Online.

5. Sell Old Books:

There are tons of options here. If you want to sell books in bulk, super-fast, use services such as Ziffit, DeCluttr and webuybooks.co.uk (UK). These services have phone apps which allow you to scan the bar code and get an instant quote. When you are done scanning, they then email you a shipping label and you box up the books and take them to a parcel drop off location. You get paid when they have received and inspected the books. These services are great if you have a large volume of books and don’t want the hassle of making individual listings, however they don’t pay much per book. You will make a lot more money listing the books individually; it’s just a lot more work and you have to be patient as some of them might not sell for weeks or months! I have had good results selling individual books as “buy now only” (i.e. not auction style) with eBay. Use a search to see how much the book is currently selling for and then list it with a buy now price just under that price! If the books are priced right they do sell, but you might need to wait in come cases! Interestingly, sometimes if you just “set and forget” the book may sell weeks or even months later without you having to do anything! Then of course there is Amazon, which takes 15% plus a small amount per book and a monthly fee if you list a large number of books.

6. Sell Old Gadgets, Phones And Phone Chargers:

Many people have a box full of these laying around. You can sell them for tens or even hundreds of dollars, depending on how recent they are, and the condition. Once again you could try DeCluttr or eBay, however there are more options, for example CeX, MusicMagpie (UK) and Sell My Mobile. Note – be sure to erase your device fully before selling!

7. Sell CDs, DVDs, Games:

Again try Ziffit, DeCluttr which are huge online marketplaces that there are numerous services such as Ziffit that cater to this but I have had best results just selling them on eBay. Discs should be in good shape, not heavily scratched – and be sure to give them a test play to make sure they don’t skip!

8. Sell Broken Items:

Yes, amazingly, you can do this. I love selling broken items on eBay! It’s not “deceptive marketing” – because eBay has a special category for items that are broken or not working as they should. I bet you have some broken stuff laying around! Just be super honest about what is wrong with it, take good photos, then list it as “spares or repair” – and you can often sell this stuff just as easily as non-broken items! With popular items you can probably see others selling non-op items and see what they are selling for. You can also use “completed listings” in eBay advanced search to see how much things sold for. If you are unsure if something works, it is also ok to write something like “this item is untested and I am not sure if it works hence listing as spares or repair”. If the price is right, someone will probably snap it up! There are many people out there who service / repair all kinds of things: buying them cheap, fixing them up and selling them on. So if you don’t want to do the repairs, don’t have the tools, the time or the required skill set, you can just pass it on to someone else and cash in!

9. Empty Boxes:

What?? Yes! You can sell the empty “original” boxes for various electronic items, if they are in good condition! Have a look on eBay! Favorites include iPhone boxes, which may sell for around $5.

10. Sell Your Trash:

Yes, really. Amazingly, people will buy all sorts of things that you might consider as junk. For example, crafters will buy toilet roll tubes, buttons, wool scraps, pine cones and wine corks. You can also sell glass jars, coat hangers, old magazines, special pull-out supplements and more. Check on eBay to see the current prices these things are selling for! Be sure to check eBay’s restrictions and rules as well as the rules of the postal service in your locations. There are a few surprises here, for example in the UK there are restrictions on shipping of perfume bottles and this makes sense as a leaking perfume could ruin other goods. Other items with restrictions / rules include lithium batteries and items with sharp blades.

Provide Local Services (15)

11. Gardening / Yard Maintenance:

Hedge cutting, pruning, leaf raking, gutter cleaning, planting, weeding… there are garden maintenance tasks that need doing year round. You could simply advertise locally via noticeboards or leaflets and you might also be able to advertise via garden centers / nurseries. Also, if you can make connections with property management companies and estate agents, you might find a valuable source of clients. Estate agents are in a prime position to recommend garden maintenance services as these are invariably required when someone is preparing a house for sale, even by people who don’t normally go to that much trouble.

12. Lawn Mowing:

This is a “classic hustle” that can earn decent money if you work hard – and requires less specialized skills than overall garden maintenance. The best part is that once you pick up a clientele, they will typically become repeat customers as, during the summer, the lawns never stop growing. You’ll need your own mower and perhaps some other garden tools (you’ll probably get asked if you do other garden work too!) You can advertise locally through noticeboards and the classic home-made flyer through the letterbox.
If you can get 5 clients who pay $25 per mow, and need a typical once-a-week mow, that’s an extra $500 per month through the summer – and you could probably do them all on the same day!

13. Cleaning:

Let’s be honest – most people would pay someone to do their cleaning if they could – and people pressed for time often don’t have the patience to thoroughly scrub entire homes or small offices. This is a service which will always be in demand.
You could always become a one-person cleaning crew for the homes and office spaces in your area. There are also evening, night or early morning jobs as offices may require some cleaning after hours. Pay may vary from one job to another but if you are detailed and hard working, this is a service that has endless demand and can even turn into a fully-fledged business. I know one person who became a millionaire from a cleaning company that they initially started on their own, so it can be done! A cleaner driving a Ferrari – can you imagine? True story.

14. House Sitting:

This is an old classic. Many people don’t like to leave their home unguarded and may also have pets and plants that need care. A great idea is to combine this with an internet-based hustle and “double up” so that you can work and earn additional income from your laptop while you are house sitting!

15. Computer Repairs / Services / IT / Installations:

With so many people working from home, the need for IT services by home clients is higher than ever. There is huge potential here and you can diversify into equipment repair, cybersecurity, data recovery, network configuration and / or installation of new systems. You can learn many of the required skills via Youtube tutorials and rapid-response callout fees can be quite high.

16. Handyperson:

My brother started out doing this because he’s “good with his hands” – and it turned into a full-fledged income where he now has to turn down work because he is maxed out! He landed a solid ongoing “main gig” – got hired by a property management company that has 150+ rental properties and he fixes them up in between tenants. If you do a good job for someone, they will keep on calling every time they need something.

17. Window Cleaning:

Almost all businesses with a public premises require window cleaning. There is also the potential of residential address clients. Another interesting line of inquiry would be estate agents, who will be in a position to recommend window cleaning services to home sellers.

18. Dump Runs:

If you have a pick-up and even better, one or more trailers, you can start hauling yard waste. Be sure to check licensing requirements in your local area as these may vary. You will also need to learn about what are the limits for legal loads and also how to tie loads down correctly / tow safely.

19. Cleaning Cars:

Cash washing is another classic hustle that can be done locally. Basic washing of cars is quite simple but detailing can get more technical and require greater skills.

20. “Micro Tasks”:

There are now websites where taskers can connect with people that need stuff done and need someone to show up and help. These tasks could be anything from assembling furniture to shopping, cleaning a kitchen, fetch and carry or deliveries and might typically pay between $5 and $100 per task. The “classic” venue for this is TaskRabbit.com (real-world tasks) – I was surprised to see several taskers charging more than $40 / hour so there is good money to be made here.

21. Pet Sitting / Dog Walking:

Another classic. Dog walkers can earn quite good money if they are able to walk more than one dog at once – though of course the dogs have to be able to “play nice” for this to work out. You can also use websites such as Rover.com to network with dog owners.

If you are pet sitting, this could either involve house sitting, showing up to feed the animals, or looking after them at your own place, depending on the wishes of the owner. If you have your own fenced yard in a safe location and are used to caring for pets then this could work well. There are millions of pet owners and for a number of reasons – sickness, vacation or just being too busy – they could need help at any time. This could be ideal if you love animals, have a calm, kind temperament and enjoy / have experience and skill working with them.

You should have a working knowledge of the type of animal you are going to care for and a secure, safe, friendly location for them. You will need to be organized, caring, reliable and have good ‘people skills’. Your startup costs for this kind of work can be minimal as you can promote locally with simple flyers, through social media or at events such as dog shows. An advisable idea would be to get insurance so that you are covered in the event of loss or damage. Note also that some areas may require a license to operate a pet care business. Check with your county or state business office and take the required steps to obtain a license if this is necessary.

22. Farm Work:

When we were teenagers, helping on local farms was our “first job”. Now this is “real work” and quickly separates the grafters from the lazy! You need common sense, reliability and a work ethic; and if you have those things, you have ongoing work. We literally used to just show up and ask if they had any work available – and more often than not, they found something for us to do. Harvest season (June-October) typically sees higher demand for additional workers but good workers will be in demand year round.

23. Newspaper, Magazine And Leaflet / Flyer Delivery:

The newspaper round is an old standard, but there are many more potential clients than just newspapers that need door-to-door delivery services. Anyone who wants to advertise with leaflets or flyers for example may be in need of someone trustworthy to post them through letterboxes.

24. Personal Assistant:

I’ve worked as a general assistant doing “whatever needed to be done” for someone; this included everything from moving furniture around to shopping, painting, gardening and office admin duties. The more useful you are, the more tasks people would like to hand off to you! With a good attitude, reliability and an ability to get things done, you can pick up ongoing work this way.

25. Personal Tutor:

Countless people are searching for personal tutoring – and you could teach children, college students or even adults. You could either work locally (meeting students in either their homes, your home, or somewhere like a coffee shop), or you could work virtually, using Zoom, Skype or similar. Many parents would like to find tutors who can help if their children are struggling in classes, and you can choose your ‘specialist subject(s)’ to suit your own skills. This is a venture that could be scaled either as a side hustle or as a main income.

If you are smart and educated you can now make money from home tutoring using online tutoring platforms that match tutors with students. This is a serious business, with online platform Wyzant claiming that it has paid out over $64 MILLION to tutors! eNotes is another – currently seeking Educators to produce content in a Q&A format for their Homework Help section. There are hundreds of student questions available for you to answer in literature, history, and the social sciences. The average pay rate for a 120-word answer is $7.40, but writers can earn up to $37 per answer. Take a look also at Tutor.com.

“Hustles” (6)

Hustles are home-grown businesses that usually combine hard work, numerical ability and some kind of arbitrage which means finding opportunities in the price differentials between different markets. There are countless hustles out there for those clever enough to spot the opportunity and go for it. Here are a few:

26. Retail Arbitrage:

I’ve come across people making VERY surprising money by searching for deals “in the real world” and selling them online. Many retail outlets will have a “loss leader” product deliberately priced below market value in order to bring people in. Other outlets periodically offload stock or end-of-season goods they cannot sell, at low prices; and these products can of course be sold via Amazon, eBay, Facebook Marketplace and so on. I just had to share this astonishing video I saw of someone who is a real pro at this, recorded on one of their “best days”. Loads of insight here:

There are a few take-aways from this. a) this was not a typical day! b) he does not release the videos until the particular opportunity has closed; you have to do your own research to find the deals c) this is very hard work but shows what is out there for those who want it badly enough.

27. Thrift Store / Yard Sale Flipping:

A different spin on the above idea involves buying used goods – from thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets and so on – and flipping them online for a higher price. Designer brands can often be found in thrift stores for low cost and if you ‘know your brands’ you can turn them around on eBay for a good markup and there are people making a living doing this. Other options include LP records, collectibles, toys and antiques.

28. Phone Repairs:

I know someone who started a business doing this and now has 3 stores! People bring their broken phones and other hand held devices and they fix them up. Another spin on this is to buy the broken ones online and fix them before selling them on.

29. Picking Up Trash:

Yes there are businesses who will pay to have someone pick up litter around commercial properties. It’s in their interests to have the exterior of their business looking nice and this is a selling point! Owners of car parking lots, retail outlets and large commercial properties in particular are potential clients but there is endless opportunity and there are reports of people making six figure incomes from this unglamorous but highly valued work! This is an easy “good karma” job that could be commenced by most people. You don’t need qualifications or much in the way of equipment – just a broom, litter pick-up tool, bins and plastic bags.

30. Couch / Furniture Flipping:

This hustle has become hugely popular in the last few years and there are some claiming to make thousands per month! Plenty of Youtube videos from couch flippers documenting their adventures and their profits!

31. Deliveries:

This is one business that has BOOMED since 2020 and it’s unlikely to slow down as so many people have now in a sense “retrained” their habits to shopping online. There are numerous options, here are a few examples:
a) Amazon Flex (USA) allows you to use your own vehicle to work as an Amazon deliver driver. You need to be in a location where this service is offered and have the required criteria – you need to be over 21, have a valid drivers license and SSN, a smartphone (iPhone or Android) and have a mid-sized or large vehicle. Once you sign up, you can apply for delivery opportunities that work for you, picking up parcels from the Amazon location and taking them to their destinations. Flex drivers report earning between $18 and $25 per hour.
b) Instacart – this is a service where you do grocery shopping for people – taking their shopping list, buying and delivering to their home.
c) Postmates – this app connects shoppers with customers, either ordering food, grocery or retail shopping.
d) More food delivery services are hiring drivers – such as UberEats and Grubhub.com

Random (7)

32. Collect / Sell Recycling:

It’s not very well paid in general, but it’s “good karma” – and you can make good money if you have a means to collect large volumes. This venture could work even better if you are also being paid to pick up the trash! The famous option here is collecting aluminum cans, which are worth a couple of pennies each. However there are numerous other recyclables that have value and are sold by weight – especially if they are clean and sorted – including scrap metals of all varieties (copper is especially valuable), paper ($45 per ton, very low value, but worth more if it is clean office paper), plastic bottles (need to be sorted, $500 to $800 per ton depending on the type). Better money can be made from deposit bottles, which in some locations can be worth 5 to 10 cents each. Another surprisingly valuable item is old electrical wire. Assuming it is copper core and not aluminum cored wire, this can be quite valuable for the copper content. Copper has recently been on a run up and the spot price is now over $4 per pound weight of copper! Ink Cartridges: Unless you do serious amounts of printing you aren’t likely to make a ton of money here but there are services that pay up to £2 (UK) for used cartridges, which they then refill. In the UK there are http://www.cashforcartridges.co.uk and http://www.infotone.co.uk.

33. Surveys:

Yes, it’s an ‘old chestnut’ of working from home but it still makes money for people – sometimes in cash, sometimes in the form of gift cards “from your favorite brands”. There are numerous options nowadays to earn some extra money from completing surveys. You won’t earn megabucks but it can be a useful fill-in during time that would be wasted or if you are in between other gigs. Platforms to investigate include:
Branded Surveys
Nielsen Online Panel
Inbox Pounds (UK)
MyPoints
SwagBucks
Pointclub
LifePoints
I-Say

34. Get Paid To Be A Friend:

Yes, this is something you can actually do! There are services such as Rent a Friend where people will pay to have some company and just go hang out with them because they don’t feel like being alone.

35. Life Coach / Personal Consultant:

Both online and offline, you can offer personal coaching on a wide variety of topics – from “life coaching” to “spiritual guidance”, helping people live their best life overall, or helping people achieve higher performance in any specific area, and even giving online dating advice! Personal one-on-one coaching can be very well paid “per hour”, though this is really a “lifestyle business” and requires a high level of empathy, caring nature and ability to bring the best out of people.

36. Reclaim Lost / Missing Money:

A surprising number of people have “missing money” in forgotten accounts, unclaimed assets, pensions, life insurance policies and so on. In the UK alone it is estimated that there is around £850 MILLION in forgotten or dormant accounts. There are numerous services that help track down this money for a fee, but you can also do the research yourself. Options include missingmoney.com in the USA or My Lost Account in the UK.

37. Generate Your Own Electricity:

Depending on your location, and the initiatives that are currently in place there to support alternative energy, you can receive money from electricity that you produce. The UK’s “Feed-in Tariff Scheme” closed to new applicants in March 2019 but there is a new scheme called the Smart Export Guarantee.
To be honest, this doesn’t seem very profitable and appears to be more a way to recoup some money on surplus electricity you generate during peak periods when powering your home with solar. It makes more sense to generate electricity for your own use, which saves you more than the companies pay you because the price they sell it to you for is much higher (of course!)

38. Drone Footage:

This is an interesting hustle that sounds like fun! Requirements of course are your own drone, videography skills and any licensing required in your location – but there is an ongoing demand for drone footage – for example by estate agents selling luxury property. Create a portfolio and show off your skills via Youtube, which could also bring in additional income. A further income stream could be from licensing footage via a site like pond5.

Online Services (16)

There are countless online tasks that are available right now through freelancer agencies such as Fiverr. Here are some of the best ones.

39. Freelance Writer:

Are you good at cranking out well-researched, original, interesting, useful articles? If so, there are endless article writing opportunities as the web’s never-ending demand for fresh content continues to grow. In addition to the typical freelancer websites such as Freelancer.com, Upwork and Fiverr, there are websites specially for writers to get jobs. Freelancer.co.uk has a decent selection of what look to be fairly well paid writing gigs available. Another list of websites worth checking out is this one 10 Online Gold Mines for Finding Paid Freelance Writing Jobs. https://www.makealivingwriting.com/make-money-writing/ has a list of over 90 websites that pay writers.

40. Proofreader:

Another option for linguists is proofreading, which involves correcting and improving others’ written work. You need excellent technical command of language and an ability to spot every error. Proofreading can vary from language error correcting only through to fact checking and making stylistic improvements, so there is a fair amount of variety here.

41. Voice Overs:

The demand for “voice overs” – someone reading a script and making a recording (that will be used on a video or audio file) – is at an all time high; and it is well paid work! I was astonished to search on fiverr.com for “voice over” and find over 18,000 people offering voice over services. Many of these providers have several hundred reviews which shows that this is a niche that has high demand.
What caught my eye about this was that services start at approx $5 per 100 words, of which around 80% I think goes to the seller. However given that typical reading time for 100 words is less than one minute, one can see that the potential is there for great income, if you can read out loud fluently, clearly and correctly.
So if you have a good clear speaking voice and strong reading out loud ability, plus some simple audio editing skills, this could be for you.
You will need a decent quality microphone, pop shield and audio recording setup. There are a few technical things to learn with regard aspects of this industry, including for example broadcast rights, microphone technique and audio file formats.

42. Narrate Audiobooks:

Another spin on doing voice overs is to narrate entire stories. This can be very well paid work and audiobook demand has surged in recent years. Top talent can earn $500 per audio hour, though of course this may mean much more than an hour’s work as incorrectly spoken lines would need to be redone. In addition to the usual freelancer venues like Fiverr, there are also websites specifically tailored to voice over work – including voices.com and voicebunny.com.

43. Test Apps And Websites:

This is an interesting possibility that is within the reach of many people, as numerous companies need “real people” to beta-test apps and websites and give feedback about ease of use, bugs and so on. Websites that cater to this opportunity include WhatUsersDo, Userfeel, Enroll, Analysia and TryMyUI. In general the tests seem to pay around $10 and take 15 to 20 minutes.

44. Virtual Assistant:

Web design, graphic design, data entry, transcription, article writing, video production, proofreading, social media management, coding, app development… there are tons of opportunities to work from home on your laptop. Good examples of freelancer websites include Getafreelancer.com, Guru.com, Upwork.com and Onlinejobs.ph (this last one is for outsourcers based in the Philippines).

Rates vary widely depending on the type of work, your skill level and (sometimes) your abilities with the English language – but there are now millions of people who earn a living from home working online, taking on tasks for businesses around the world.

45. Transcription:

Transcriptionists listen to audio files and convert them to text. You won’t need to be creative but if you are a blazing fast typist and have great command of language, this option could be fantastic for you. Popular transcriptions companies such as Transcribe Anywhere, Rev, 3PlayMedia and TranscribeMe will pay you to transcribe audio files to text. If you have specialized knowledge, particularly in legal, medical and business fields, you can earn a higher hourly rate.

46. Social Media Manager:

If you have a knack for social media and especially if you already have a sizeable following, you can help others with their social media. The majority of businesses don’t do a good job of social media; these are easy to spot and offer your services to. Endless opportunity. You can also find gigs through Fiverr, Upwork and other outsourcing agencies.

47. Data Entry:

This is another opportunity which has endless potential. It’s not neccessarily the best paid work in the world, however there is tons of it. If you are detail-oriented, accurate and fast in apps such as Google Sheets or Excel, thousands of businesses would love to hire you. If you are in urgent need of some cash you could try MTurk.com but the pay scale here is more of a third-world payscale than developed world income.

48. Graphic Design:

From designing social media graphics that get clicks, through to video thumbnails, product packaging, logos and more – there are tons of graphic design opportunities available for skilled designers. You’ll need the industry-standard apps such as Adobe Photoshop, reliable hardware and a portfolio showing off your best work.

49. Bookkeeping:

Becoming a “virtual bookkeeper” can be a great option if you are good with numbers, details and accuracy. In fact, Entrepreneur magazine has named bookkeeping as one of the most profitable online small businesses! Entry level pay could be $15 per hour but this can go all the way up to $80 per hour – which is an amazing pay rate considering you don’t have to go out in traffic to get there. This is another line of work for which you can utilize outsourcing agencies.
Many people confuse bookkeeping with accounting. The two are different. Accountants often require a degree or even certification. Bookkeepers, on the other hand, don’t need formal education. There are numerous online tutorials where you can learn to get started in this career – start by doing some research.

50. Video Editing:

With the popularity of video for tutorials, television, film, documentaries and shows, as well as the rise of Youtube and other video hosting sites, the demand for video editing has grown immensely. Skilled video editors who use Final Cut Pro and / or the other well known video editing apps can command good wages and work remotely.

51. Language Tutor:

I met a lady who teaches English online using Skype. She chats in English with professionals in other countries, some of whom are very highly educated, and they pay her a fantastic hourly rate. She gives them a great opportunity to practice real conversation and they pay for her time.

There are so many websites now that facilitate this that all you have to do is google “get paid to teach English online” and you will find them. Going rates seem to be around $15-$30 per hour, which is pretty decent especially considering that you don’t have to leave the house! Found a great tutorial here.

52. Translator:

For all you multilingual people out there, you could always try your hand at doing translation. As useful as it is, Google Translate is not always accurate especially for the finer nuances in language. You may take up translating either spoken or print texts for educational purposes or just work freelance for people who need to make certain content available in more than one language. This can include not just written text but also video subtitles and even entire websites and apps. Best of all is that this can be done entirely from home.

53. Coding:

There are not enough programmers in the world! According to research, the growth rate of programming jobs is 12% higher than the average market rate. Even more interesting, over 7 million annual job openings list coding skills as a requirement.

The beauty with coding is that it can be completely self-taught from the comfort of your home – after which you can offer your coding services to anyone in the world, remotely. Platforms like GitHub allow you to post your repositories either for personal or collaborative projects. There are tons of programming languages to choose from – and each one offers a potential side hustle opportunity. If you’re already a coder, think of it as carrying your work home and getting paid extra for it.

54. Hi Tech Jobs:

Some of the hottest online job opportunities are in this sector. In particular the following sectors are super hot: Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Blockchain / DApp development (huge demand), Coding (see above – always in demand), Cybersecurity, Business Tools, Gaming, Publishing, Social Networks, Big Data, Open Source Apps, Medical Research, Biotech, Aerospace, Virtual Reality.

55. Facebook Fan Pages And Groups:

Facebook Fan Pages are actually how I have made more money in my life than through any other means! In its heyday, 4-figure days were quite common! Yes truly. It’s still do-able: Build up an audience by sharing lots of awesome content on a popular topic. Paired with one or more blogs, you can then promote your own content and drive traffic from Facebook to your Blog. Ads on the blog complete the picture. 56. eBook Author / Publisher:

There are numerous outlets that allow you to self-publish and sell eBooks. Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing is the biggest and allows you to upload your ebook and sell it through the gigantic Amazon Marketplace. So if you have one or more books or want to get started, you can make some extra money this way. Productive writers can make a full time living doing this! Top Kindle Publishers are making 6 figures a month – this is no joke. And you don’t even need to be a writer because you can hire writers to create eBooks for you!

This is a long term play. Top Kindle Publisher Ty Cohen, who teaches people how to build an Amazon Kindle business, claims to be making $200,000 per month. He has however been working on Kindle since 2009, and reports that has over 1000 ebooks up for sale there. While this seems daunting, Ty revealed that great success can be achieved with short ebooks, perhaps 10,000 to 15,000 words – and he outsources all the writing; paying perhaps $100 to $150 per ebook to have them written. So he started by building the first few himself, and then ploughed much of the money back in to building a greater volume of content. Now his 1000 ebooks are generating mid 5 figures per month, pretty much on autopilot, with a further and even greater “back end” revenue from links in the ebooks driving traffic to his email list funnels, where he will offer a free product in return for an email address. The email address will then be used to promote further products, coaching services and new ebook releases.

An important strategy once again is to data mine to see what is already popular / successful – and model new content based on that. It is advised to do this rather than trying to write about something that nobody has written about. If nobody has written about it, this is probably for a very good reason – because nobody is interested! You will in general do much better finding the thing that everybody wants and delivering that. You can see now why I chose to create this book. It’s information that tons of people need, that I also happen to know a lot about.

One of Ty Cohen’s strategies is to create “fiction series” books. These typically have some kind of “cliffhanger ending” that of course lead to people buying the next book. The development of central characters that people “bond with” and want more of is one of the key strategies that lead to multiple sales.

57. One-On-One Coaching:

A friend of mine is now a guitar coach online using Zoom to give one-on-one coaching. Aside from musical instruments, you could give lessons in just about anything you can name, so there is a way to put your excellent skill set to good use!

58. Flipping Websites:

If you already have skills in building and growing a successful website, there are endless opportunities here. Many website owners and bloggers get started with high hopes, but for whatever reason don’t stay the course and decide to sell their blog. A large number of these blogs are “undermonetized” and if you know what you are looking at, you can spot a potential winner that the owner simply didn’t have the experience to know what to do with.
There are also better-established websites for sale, as all kinds of people sell businesses. You can also buy a website related to one you already own, and utilize its traffic or other assets. Monthly gross revenue is the main metric that is used to price websites. Websites can sell for up to 50x their monthly gross income! 35x-40x seems quite common. Two website marketplaces that cater to website flipping are Flippa and Empire Flippers.

59. Stock Photography (And Other Content Libraries):

There are a large number of web sites which host digital content such as (for example) stock photos – and have a system in place where you create an account, sign an agreement, upload your content, and then get paid every time someone downloads the content. If you have the equipment and the skills, you should be able to start making money this way.

A good way to approach this might be to consider what is commonplace in your area, but scarce in other places. It might be some feature of the landscape, a type of plant, even items in your home. It’s amazing what people want photographs of.

An important thing to bear in mind with digital content libraries is that volume is very often the key. The more content you have uploaded, the greater your overall revenue is likely to be. However this cannot be at the expense of quality. People have a lot of images to choose from. The best selling digital content has also very often been digitally improved / retouched and this of course takes time.

Examples of stock image websites include iStockPhoto, Bigstock and Shutterstock.

There are great tutorials on how to make money with stock photography here and here.

There are many other forms of digital content which can make you money while you sleep through content libraries. Other examples are audio samples / sound effects and video.

60. Blogging:

This is a stellar internet business model that I myself have had some great success with – and others have made really serious money from.

Check out my report on some of the world’s top earning blogs: 45 Of The World’s Most Successful Blogs – Earnings Reports, Deep Dive, Amazing Insights!

For many bloggers, the majority of their web traffic comes from social media – especially Pinterest. The most successful blogs create super high value posts which are essentially full tutorials that are of the kind of quality that ought to make them good enough to sell. (see what I did here? 🙂 ) Most people try to skimp here and offer shorter, low-value or “personal ramble” articles but the key is to focus on giving away as much value as possible in order to create a traffic frenzy. Offering “more than you should really be giving away”, for free, creates higher traffic, which is then monetized through affiliate schemes, ads such as Adsense or Adthrive. There are also great revenue opportunites from selling printables, training courses, one-on-one coaching and more.

The scope for making super high-value blog posts is to all intents and purposes unlimited. The Worlds 10 Best Cooking Utensils You Can’t Afford To Be Without. 22 Most Important Tools For Woodworkers. I’m just throwing out random ideas but you get the picture. It’s not actually all that difficult to do this, but the great challenge is in being consistent and sticking to it through that first year of high work, low returns. Blogging is a long game and many blogs will not show their true potential for one or more years. It can be a great side hustle and typically bloggers will “go full time” once their income has significantly overtaken that of their day job.

61. Youtuber:

This has “sky is the limit” potential right now. The top Youtubers make millions but it’s not just luck – there is a science to it. Youtube is an internet phenomenon that has now truly come of age. If you were not aware of it, you might be astonished at the income that successful Youtubers are making. Apps such as VidIQ and SocialBlade enable you to ‘data mine’ Youtube and get insights into how much the channel is making per month. $20,000+ per month is not uncommon for a Youtube account with a six figure number of subscribers. It takes time and dedication to build a following of this size, and so Youtube is essentially a long term play; with many channels taking six months to a year or more to start showing good form. However the good news is that if the content is “evergreen”, there is potential for income for many years, even if, once the channel has “made it”, you only continue to post one new video every month.

There are numerous ways to make money from Youtube, some of which don’t even involve making videos or having your own channel. However the standard way is through creating good content and building up a following. See my full tutorial 18 Awesome Ways To Make Money With Youtube.

For more tutorials on how to make money with Youtube Channels, you just have to look at Youtube and will be swamped with videos offering to teach you! Pick the ones that have the highest thumbs up and the lowest thumbs down; a fairly reliable indicator of content quality.

62. Repair And Resell Business:

There are innumerable people who have made a business out of buying broken items, repairing / restoring them and then selling them.
The good news is that with Youtube, you can find free tutorials on how to repair pretty much anything!
One of the first ideas that comes to mind is laptop computers because the demand is obviously very high and there are tons of broken ones out there. There are even eBay sellers selling old Macbooks by the pallet load! However there is of course no limit to what can be repaired if you have the skills and equipment to do so. You could set up a small workshop in your garage or shed and make a start. Electronics is a good niche in general. Tools is another: I came across one eBayer who restores vintage woodworking tools – cleaning, polishing and sharpening chisels, planes etc and bringing them back to their former glory.

63. E-commerce / Dropshipping Businesses:

The world has of course turned to e-commerce to provide products of all kinds that they used to buy in the high street. Ecommerce in general has boomed of late, due of course to restrictions on retail. This trend will likely continue as in all honesty I don’t see this scenario going away – and I would even go so far as to say that it suits certain entities rather well that business shifts to online and stays that way. I can’t see it going back. Opportunities therefore abound for “Fulfilled by Amazon” sellers and also “dropshippers” who use paid advertisements to promote products on their own ecommerce stores (typically built using Shopify). Dropshipping is where you sell products online without holding the stock. When a customer places an order with you, you order the product from the supplier and have it shipped directly to the customer. Numerous suppliers now service dropshipping orders. A common practice is ordering direct from China however this comes with the problem of slower delivery times than with products that are already warehoused in your own country. This is a deep topic with much to learn but of course with e-commerce the potential rewards are virtually unlimited.

64. Instagram Influencer:

Instagram influencers can make real money promoting products for real world businesses – depending on the size and engagement of your following. A sponsored post can easily be worth $300 and if you have hundreds of thousands of followers, may be worth thousands. The top Instagrammers are making good incomes.

This is one field in which it certainly pays to be good looking and stylish – however there are other possibilities, for example for food bloggers, cat fanciers and so on. Developing a strong social media presence takes a wide ranging skill set including photography, styling, people skills and also other skills such as learning the various tricks and ways to build your following (these can be researched). Check out my full-length free tutorial on how to make money on Instagram – How To Make Money On Instagram | HUGE Free Tutorial | 10+ Authentic Methods | REAL Insider Secrets

65. eBay Trader:

Selling your old stuff you don’t want on eBay is great for beginners or amateurs, however those wishing to take eBay to the next level could turn pro. Turning pro will mean there are additional logistics and greater paperwork of course – because as opposed to just “selling belongings you don’t want” you are now selling for profit and so it will be taxable income. Note that I am of course not a tax advisor and nothing I say should be construed as legal advice etc etc.

Some eBay businesses are doing incredibly well even during lockdowns; typically those positioned to reap the rewards from the massive shifts in consumer behavior that have been happening. You have to “think out of the box” to uncover these opportunities and of course it helps if you are already “positioned” in the right place. One company for example that I discovered a few days ago is doing extremely well on eBay is selling bicycle tyres! Seriously. But it makes sense when you look into it: Due to lockdowns and gym closures, countless people are getting that dusty old bike out of the garage to get some exercise and of course you guessed it, the tyre has perished in the two years it has been sitting there! Ordering new bike tyres myself, I received a note from the eBay seller saying their entire stock had just sold out in record time and would I mind a different tyre instead.

As with any business, reading the trends of the times and interpreting the laws of supply and demand are where the money is to be made. You don’t want to be stuck with an item that people just aren’t buying. With eBay, the best data point I have found is the number of watchers of an item. This is the clearest indicator of high demand. People ‘watch’ items as a way to bookmark them because they think they want the item but “not right now”. However, it’s reliable. With my own eBay sales, items that pick up more watchers predictably sell more readily. Another clear indicator of high demand is of course the number of items of that type already sold. These are of corse the items you want to be selling if possible.

This “old standard” of internet based business is tried and tested and still has enormous potential. Learn more: 12 Steps Towards Making Mega Money With Email Marketing (FREE Email Marketing Tutorial)

67. Teespring:

This one is a fun side-hustle. Numerous people make an income from designing their own T-shirts, then uploading the designs to Teespring, which handles the manufacture and shipping. These entrepreneurs then use ads (for example on Facebook) to target potential buyers.

68. Affiliate Marketing:

Affiliate Marketing involves promoting products and services of others and earning commissions. There are almost unlimited opportunities for affiliates nowadays. You name it, you can promote it online for a commission! Famous affiliate schemes include the Amazon Associates Program, which allows you to earn approximately 3 to 5% comms on pretty much anything Amazon sells. Another popular option is Clickbank, which offers commissions up to an astonishing 75% and beyond. As a business, affiliate marketing has numerous advantages. You don’t have to deal with customers, inventory, returns, orders etc. You do however need an audience to promote to – so it tends to work best for those with either a high traffic website, large social media following or large email list to promote to. In general, you need to get your affiliate offer in front of large amounts of people to start seeing real money – but there is again unlimited opportunity, depending largely on how much traffic you can drive to the offer, how cheaply you can obtain the traffic and how much of a good fit the offer is for your audience.

69. Selling Printables:

Here’s another opportunity that doesn’t seem like much to the outsider but has top sellers with incomes in the five and even six figures per month! The concept is simple, from “organizer” printables that help people keep track of budgets and meal plans, through to inspirational quotes, you can make money selling these useful and fun resources. Sell via Etsy, on your own website or in various other places; this could be an additional revenue stream to an existing online business. Note that you will have to follow copyright laws and you can’t just sell printables of any materials you don’t own the copyright for.

Renting Stuff Out (7)

70. Parking Space:

If you have a garage or driveway you don’t use, you could rent it out for money. If you are not using the parking space allocated to you and you live in a busy part of town, then this could be an easy win for you. You could earn $200 per month or more in a major city. Websites that enable you to advertise your car parking space include Gumtree, Parklet, YourParkingSpace, Park On My Drive and Just Park. Note that if you are renting then this may be considered subletting so be sure of your legal status here. You will also likely need a contract so that your legal bases are covered in terms of liability etc. Read some tutorials before getting started with this one.

71. Storage Space:

Neighbor.com allows you to store other people’s stuff at your place. The app allows you to network with people needing a place to store stuff. Storemates.co.uk is a UK option and this takes a 17% fee for matching you with people who need storage space.

72. Rent Your Spare Room:

In the UK you can (Since 2016) earn up to £7,500 a year tax-free from renting a room. This is a big tax break! You will have to check for the up to date amount and this of course may be more challenging during lockdowns, however people still need places to live!

73. Vacation Rentals:

If you have a vacant property, then it makes sense to list it on a vacation rental website such as VRBO or AirBnB. This could also be valuable if you commute and have a place that is vacant for part of the week! AirBnB also allows short term letting of single rooms and even “interesting spaces” such as Airstreams, cabins or yurts! Note that there may be restrictions or licensing required to do vacations rentals, depending on your location. Insurance cover should also be investigated.

74. Rent Out Your Car:

Getaround is a peer-to-peer car sharing platform. Car owners have the possibility to earn thousands of dollars per year with this! You decide when you want to rent your car, so your timing is completely flexible based on your own use. $1,000,000 primary insurance is included and would-be drivers are screened to ensure they have a safe driving record. The Getaround app includes a “Connect™” key that enables renters to unlock and use the car using their phone! All Getaround rentals include insurance coverage and 24/7 roadside assistance and it is free to join with no monthly fees.

75. RV:

So many people spend large sums of money on an RV that they only use for a few weeks of the year – and then most of the rest of the year it just sits there gathering dust and gradually losing value. There are now peer-to-peer RV sharing networks such as RVShare.com and Outdoorsy that enable you to rent out your recreational vehicle – potentially making thousands of dollars per year. Something to look into if you are an RV owner needing some extra cash. Typically the website will have details such as insurance and roadside assistance factored in.

76. Your Belongings:

FatLlama.com is a website that allows you to rent out your belongings – so if you have equipment just sitting there most of the time, you can earn money from it! Examples of popular items include audio equipment, camera equipment, drones, bicycles. The service offers insurance that covers items against loss or damage. One success story featured a man in London who made over $30,000 renting out photography equipment.

77. Sell Your Crafts / Home Made Items:

From making clothes through to making candles, carving wood through to making stained glass, there are genuine opportunities for the crafty. A good thing about this is that you can test at small-scale – and turn an enjoyable pastime into a way to make some extra cash.

Etsy has now become the online avenue of choice for people involved in this field and offers the opportunity for the creative to turn their passion into an income.

One of the challenges of making crafts is that you may be competing head to head with foreign imports of products that are made far cheaper than yours can be. But Etsy shoppers are typically looking for the unusual / unique and this reflects in the popularity of Etsy, which is now a major international marketplace. If you are good at making things or even if you fancy giving it a try, Etsy now has over 30 million customers and can connect you to countless potential buyers. This marketplace is huge and the best thing to do is explore and look at some of the incredible things people make and sell on there. You can easily spot the successful makers on Etsy and then observe the qualities that set them apart. Another option is redbubble.com and of course you can also list your stuff on eBay!

78. Sell Your Own Produce:

Do you have “green thumbs”? Living in the countryside, it’s not uncommon to see signs outside where people offer their produce for sale: Eggs, honey, jams, fruit and veg, baked goods, herbs, nuts. Some of them even have a simple money box allowing you to put the money in and take your box of eggs or whatever. So if you fancy baking cakes, growing organic veggies, harvesting herbs or raising chickens this is something you could do. You could also sell heirloom seeds you collected and dried, or potted plants. In addition to selling from your own yard, you have the option of farmers markets and supplying local outlets. There are also online networks such as BigBarn (in the UK).

Investments (6)

Note – I am legally required to say that investments carry risks and none of this is financial advice. You could lose as well as make money.

When it comes to investing and building a portfolio that grows over time, bear in mind that time passes fast and the sooner you start building wealth, the better. Don’t be the person who looks back in 25 years thinking “If only I had…”

79. Crypto:

Note of course that cryptocurrencies are highly volatile and therefore high risk, but with some cryptocurrencies going 2x or even 10x in the last few months, and some investors literally making millions, it would be remiss of me not to list cryptocurrencies. The overall market cap of this space continues to grow. Watch out for pump and dump schemes and learn about the technology behind the cryptos you are investing in. Even in times of relative overall stability, there is still money to be made trading cryptocurrencies – due to the volatility that is inherent to the platform. Day trading gives the possibility to make fast gains… as well as fast losses! There is a learning curve here; first in understanding how the various trading platforms such as Bittrex work. But also with understanding the way cryptocurrencies work and the various trends in the marketplace. Numerous tutorials, blogs, YouTube channels and Facebook groups are dedicated to this topic and you will need to do significant research before getting started.

Another potential way to make (or lose) money: ICOs – initial coin offerings. This is the cryptocurrency equivalent of an IPO, the initial public sale of stock in a company.

80. Real Estate:

I really like this one. Fundrise offers an opportunity to get started in real estate investment with as little as $500! Fundrise states that they employ a private market, direct investment strategy in order to earn higher incomes than investments such as public bonds and ETFs.

Fundrise posts some impressive stats – reporting fantastic annualized returns on their website including 11.44% in 2017. Investments such as these of course carry an element of risk and no guarantee of returns, however at the time of writing Fundrise has paid distributions every quarter since at least Q2 2016.

81. Stocks:

Most people concern themselves with the rising and falling of the stock price and the fact that if you buy and sell stocks, you can make money if it goes up. However another possibility is dividend stocks, which pay out a dividend to stock owners; typically every three months although this varies. Dividend stocks are an entire passive revenue stream, especially for bigger investors – however this is not a get-rich quick scheme. Services to explore include M1 Finance and RobinHood.

82. Gold / Silver:

Silver in particular has been on a good run of late. It’s an “industrial metal” – meaning that it has genuine demand. There are numerous bullion brokers out there that allow you to buy precious metals direct. You can also buy on sites such as eBay. Learn how to identify real gold: How To Tell If Gold Is Real

83. Peer-To-Peer Lending:

Peer-to-peer lending systems allow you to loan money to other people who do not qualify for traditional financing. Companies like LendingClub (claiming 3% to 8% historic returns), Prosper (claiming possible returns of 4.99% to 11.75%), and Harmoney (Australia-based), offer potential investment returns MUCH higher than a typical savings or money market account. Other options include Stash and Acorns which allow you to “micro-invest” small amounts. Acorns is an app that automatically rounds up your credit / debit card purchases to the nearest dollar / pound etc – and then banks all that change for you. You can also add sums of your own choosing. The money is then moved to your Acorns account and invested in a portfolio that you can select. Plus you get $5 when you start. It reminds me of the Restaurant At The End Of The Universe, where you invest one penny in your lifetime and by the end of the universe, it has racked up enough interest to pay for your meal. 🙂 I wonder how much you could save in 20 years just collecting the pennies from every purchase you make. It’s probably a lot more than you would think. Acorns has numerous other features such as their own debit card.

84. And Finally… Save Money!

The average family in the USA, UK or similar could potentially save $3,000 or more per year just by researching and shifting to the best deal on every bill or service.
Every dollar that you don’t spend is equivalent to a dollar earned! And then more – if you take that money and invest it! Here is my top 50 list of awesome money-saving methods: 50 Amazing Ways To Save Money.

Final Note: Don’t forget – income from your side-hustles and online ventures is taxable and needs to be reported as such. Keep good records and make sure you list everything when you file taxes. Be sure to check with a tax advisor to make sure you are up to date with any changes.
